Cook out, then camp in — Blackwater River State Park

Gather the gang and have a cookout in Milton

A day of picnicking in Milton is a laid‑back, southern‑charm experience best enjoyed alongside the beautiful Blackwater River and at one of the city’s well‑kept parks. Golden sunlight filters through towering longleaf pines, spotlighting the river’s crystal‑clear, tannin‑tinted waters and soft white sandbars. Spread your blanket at one of the shady picnic areas overlooking the water and enjoy a leisurely swim or float along on an inner tube, canoe, or kayak. Spots like Carpenter’s Park, Russell Harber Landing, and the Milton Riverwalk feature pavilions and picnic areas with grills, making them perfect for weekend cookouts. These parks stay open from sunrise to 10 p.m., and the riverside ambiance is ideal for gathering with family and friends. If you’re craving a taste of the South, stop by 850 Barbecue downtown—the brisket is a local favorite, “don’t even need sauce” kind of delicious. For a taste of true Southern BBQ with waterfront vibes, Grover T’s is another hidden gem just outside Milton. Whether you’re flipping burgers in a shady pavilion or firing up ribs by the riverside, cooking out in Milton is a delicious Florida tradition.
