AM fishing & PM feasting — St. Andrews State Park

Get up early and try shore fishing at St. Andrews State Park

St. Andrews State Park offers a diverse and rewarding experience for anglers of all skill levels! With access to both the Gulf of Mexico and Grand Lagoon, there are multiple fishing environments to explore. Fishing piers extend into Grand Lagoon, offering opportunities to catch trout, black drum, and mangrove snapper. These spots are especially convenient for families with young children, first-timers, and those preferring a more laid-back experience. Rock jetties are another prime shore fishing spot, and are popular for targeting species like Spanish mackerel, redfish, flounder, and sheepshead. Casting directly from the beach allows anglers to target pompano and whiting. Early morning and late afternoon are typically the most productive times for beachfront surf fishing. There is also an area located east of the boat ramp near deeper waters but close to shore, making it ideal for catching flounder and trout. St. Andrews State Park offers several on-site locations where you can purchase fishing gear and rent equipment. If you require specialized tackle or a broader selection, several fishing outfitters are located near the park.

Chill on the beach and plan an evening seafood feast

Once you've had your fill of fishing for the day, head back to your park campsite, or to the beach to enjoy over 1.5 miles of beautiful white sand beaches on the Gulf. But before you go, make sure you put the day's catch on ice so you can bring it to one of the local restaurants that offer a "cook your catch" dining experience right on the waterfront. Several of these establishments are located near St. Andrews State Park including Captain's Table Fish House Restaurant, Hunt's Oyster Bar & Seafood Restaurant, and J. Michael's Restaurant. Always call ahead to confirm a restaurant's cook-your-catch policies, pricing, and any preparation preferences they may have. Enjoy your the fruit of your morning's labor!
